Six core functions of surfactants
Emulsification: Stabilizes the mixing of oil and water (dissolves oil stains
in face creams, salad dressings, and laundry detergents).
Wetting/Penetration: Rapidly spreads liquids onto solid surfaces (pesticide
adhesion to leaves, textile dyeing).
Stain Removal and Dispersion: Encapsulates oil and dust, preventing
re-adhesion to clothing.
Fogging/Foam Stabilization: Source of foam in shampoos and shower gels; can
also be used as an antifoaming agent (non-ionic low-foaming type).
Solubilization: Dissolves water-insoluble fragrances, oils, and medications
(transparent serums, oral liquids).
Antibacterial/Antistatic/Softening: Specific functions of cationic
surfactants.
