How To Check Cushion Refill Lid Fit With Outer Compact Lid

A cushion compact can close cleanly when both lids are seated and still catch while the refill lid is open. The quickest way to find the interference is to watch both lids move through the positions the user actually reaches.

Check the two paths on the assembled compact

Seat the refill fully in the outer shell and identify the intended operating sequence. Open the outer lid to its usable stop. Move the refill lid slowly through its travel and observe the leading edge, hinge area, and any projecting tab. Then keep the refill lid at the relevant open positions while moving the outer lid only as far as the design allows. Stop at first contact. Forcing the outer lid through contact can move the refill and obscure the original interference.

Photograph first contact from the side and mark the contacting surfaces. Compare several samples with the same revision. An intended interlock can block the outer lid until the refill lid is closed. An unexpected contact can instead push the refill sideways, scrape a surface, or prevent normal travel in the intended sequence. Check the drawing or agreed sample to tell those cases apart.

Repeat with the actual mirror, puff, decorations, and refill supplied for the pack. Check that the refill is fully seated each time and record the relevant opening angles or reference positions. If contact appears only on some samples, compare refill seating and hinge position before changing the lid profile. Record the position at first touch and which parts met. Those details let the supplier inspect the relevant clearance without guessing from a photo of the closed compact. The SamBound packaging catalog is available at sambound.com.
